The general opinion is that sciatica is caused by conditions that lead to a compression of the sciatic nerve. This can happen by certain abnormalities in the spinal discs due to injury or degeneration or the natural aging process that leads to narrow spinal cord. Opinion is correct of course. However, there are conditions that can lead to sciatica even if does not relate to the spinal discs. Most of these conditions are caused by incorrect postures and lack of exercise. The treatment of one’s own is a dangerous thing in any ailment and must not be attempted.
The only aspect of the condition that you should try to handle on its own is causing sciatica pain. Sciatica is a symptom and not a disease, and by one’s own treatment of sciatica is possible in cases where is not caused due to compression of the spinal discs. Sciatica is caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve roots. The sciatic nerve has five roots coming out of the lower spine. In many cases is the joints and tense lower back muscles which irritate the nerve and cause pain. Stretch exercises with these joints and muscles can go a long in the stress relieving way.
Muscle piriformis, located under the buttock muscles that form the buttock and move the thigh, are probably the most common cause behind what is known as pseudo sciatica sciatic pain caused by conditions relating not to the disks. The piriformis muscles contract with spasms and sciatic nerve strangles underneath the muscle, causing a condition known medically as the piriformis syndrome. The sacroiliac joint, the union between the sacrum (a bone wedge-shaped which has five fused vertebrae that form the rear part of the pelvis.) and the ilium (the uppermost and the more width of the three bones that make the hips) develops distortions due to excessively sitting in a Chair, sit on top of the portfolio or to sleep in a fetal position. The condition is aggravated due to lack of stretching exercises related to these areas with the results of spinal conditions and soft tissue that cause sciatica. Regular exercise, correct posture, natural remedies and a form of healthy living are good preventive measures and can effectively prevent a situation where you might need treatment of sciatic nerve. However, once it has diagnosed sciatica related discs, self treatment is of little help and the condition requires expert handling even to identify the exercises that are effective and safe. General sciatica or pseudo sciatica, however, can be handled effectively with stretching exercises you can perform at home. Obviously, in some cases an initial address should be required. Distortions in the pelvis can be corrected to improve defects and postural exercises. There is no cure for sciatica and sciatica causes should be considered individually. Sciatica related discs, requires consultation with experts of alternative remedies or conventional with specialties such as chiropractic, yoga, acupuncture, herbal therapy and physical exercises. A word of caution should be added here. Although some cases of sciatica can be treated at home, it is recommended that patients consult with a professional and avoid treating oneself to avoid the condition becomes worse.
